Harddisk problem

hi,everyone greeting from alanwint.
I am new to this forum and I haven't figured out how to type in myanmar here but can't wait to ask my problem.
I am using the harddisk capacity of 40 G.
But when I explore in my computer,it only shows about 37 G and so over 3 G is missing.
Although I have formatted the whole harddisk,it is still the same.
I have checked with some program and there is no bad sectors on my hard disk.
So,please any one help me how to solve this problem.

ကၽြန္ေတာ္ သိသေလာက္ေတာ့ Hard Disk ေတာ္ေတာ္မ်ားမ်ားဟာ 40 GB ဆိုရင္ 40 GB အျပည့္မပါပါဘူး... အမ်ားအားျဖင့္ အနီးစပ္ဆံုး ယူထားတာပါ။ အျခား Computer မ်ားကိုလည္း စစ္ေဆးၾကည့္ပါ... အနည္းငယ္ ေလ်ာ့နည္းတာကို ေတြ႕ရမွာပါ။ ပံုမွန္အားျဖင့္ 1 GB ေလာက္ေတာ့ အနည္းဆံုး ကြာပါတယ္။ အမ်ားအားျဖင့္ 39 GB ေလာက္ရိွတာေတာင္ ရွားပါးပါတယ္။ ဒါ့အျပင္ Windows XP က hide partition လုပ္ျပီး 4 MB ေလာက္ေနရာယူထားပါတယ္။

1kb မွာ 1024 byte ရွိတာလူတိုင္းသိပါတယ္ဗ်ာ ... ဂ်ပန္ေတြက 1kb=1000 byte လို႕ေရတြက္တယ္ ၾကားဘူးတာပဲ ... အဲ့ဒီေတာ့ 1kb မွာ 24 byte စီေလ်ာ့နဲလာတာ Gb ေရာက္ေတာ့ဘယ္ေလာက္ထိ ေလ်ာ့သြားမလဲတြက္ၾကည့္ေပ့ါဗ်ာ။ အဲဒီမွာ Hardware ထုတ္လုပ္သူေတြက လူလည္က် မသိေယာင္ေဆာင္ပီး သူတို႔ Hardware ေတြရဲ႕ Capacity ကို ဂ်ပန္ Gb တန္ဖိုးနဲ ေလဘယ္ထိုးၾကသဗ်။ :77:

ur hard drive is advertised as having a (let's say)60GB capacity,
but ur computer shows only 55.8GB. What gives?
The discrepancy is the result of having two methods of measuring memory.
Computers are binary, or "base two," mathematical systems, and in
a binary world a kilobyte is 1024 bytes (2 to the 10th power[2^10]). When computers were new,
that mean referred to this as a "kilo." Noncomputer folks, however,
understood kilo to mean thousand, and thought that 1000 bytes should equal a kilobyte.
So, two different measurements of hard drive space were born.
In 1998, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) weighed in, defining 1 "gigabyte" as 1 billion bytes.
Hard disk manufacturers agree, marketing their products using the rounder decimal value instead of the binary system.
So, ur drive is labeled as decimal ("giga") and ur PC reads binary (IEC's term, "gibi").
Either way, you're getting the same bunch of bytes.

Its to do with marketing. Drive makers use 1000 kilobytes=1 megabyte whereas
it it really is 1024 kilobytes=1 megabyte. Add that to the overheads of
formatting the drive and thats where ur space has gone!
And no, you can't get it back, it's the same on all drives.
My 80Gb drive shows the same figure and my 300Gb drive has 279 and bit meg
